Chiang Mai lies 710 kilometers north of Bangkok, the capital, and 305 meters above sea level with the area of 20,107 square meters on Mae Ping River basin. The north borders Myanmar. The south borders Lamphun and Tak provinces. The east borders Lamphun, Lampang, and Chiang Rai provinces. The west borders Mae Hong Son province. The terrain comprises of jungles and mountains which run from north to south.
